The problem
Our friends at VegasTripping have received a hilarious (read: frivolous) legal threat from Wynn Resorts. Check out the original post here!
This letter pisses us off for a number of reasons. Lets address them one at a time.
The facts
1) The idea that your failing luxury hotel has become so world famous that you think you have the ability to unlawfully TAKE something that doesn't belong to you is a joke. Being this arrogant in a legal bluff is a testament to your inflated self image and should be corrected. Whats more, demanding someone transfer their legitimate and PAID FOR domain to your organization (especially without compensation) demonstrates the true nature of this organization.
2) Submitting baseless legal threats demonstrates this organizations clear LACK of understanding of the ways media has changed. The internet has given us a new power. It has has completely changed the market, in that, we now have the ability to pass judgment on your laughable corporate practices and spread the word farther then we ever could before. Being unable to roll with the punches will only make you a larger target.
3) Submitting a serious legal threat against a PARODY site tells us that you expected there to be something more after the page failed to load. Did you just think you were having browser problems, and there were some sort of valid infringements beyond the obvious joke? You can't sue for that which does not load!
4) Who the hell do you think you are?
5) The demand for response within a certain time period demonstrates the desperate nature of this threat.
6) You RELY on sites like VT to spread the word about your hotel and ultimately drive business to it. You've done a REALLY good job at biting the hand that feeds. I hope all of these Las Vegas sites strike your name from them.
The fallout
We have offered our complete support to VT/Wynncore.com. We will mirror and/or load balance your site in such a geographic way that Wynn Resorts can have fun using some of that world wide fame serving us in every country we can get internet access in. We will also do this in such a way that your resort will rott in google cache long after you implode that hotel of yours.
We plan to release a number of tailored web spiders whose soul purpose is to deliver you Wynn information and prevent you from even having to load their shitty webpage in your browser. We imagine enough people running our spider will only punctuate the slow load times their websites already experience.
We are drafting a letter to the EFF and ACLU requesting their intervention and/or council to VT for this issue. Our hope is that any legal battle Wynn Resorts wishes to pursue will become so detrimental to their ego that they will grow a sense of humor whenever someone criticizes them.
Offer our consulting services to Wynn Resorts to evaluate their network infrastructure and isolate any network bottlenecks that ultimately lead to a parody site clearly demonstrating their electronic inadequacies.
Give our word that we will *NEVER* do business with the Wynn or any of it's parent/sister resorts. We are always looking for a nice hotel to stay at, or host functions at. We will voice our disgust with Wynn Resorts to any/all Infosec people/conferences we are associated with.
